Matilde Borges
1932 - 2022

Matilde Borges, aged 89 of Orlando, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022. She was born on May 23, 1932, in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, to mother, Ursula Felix, and father, Candido Navarro.

At age 18, Matilde traveled from Puerto Rico to the United States and joined her husband, Luis Borges, who was serving in the US Navy and stationed in Rhode Island. Following Luis's retirement, the family established residence in South Florida. The Borges family relocated to Central Florida from Miami where they settled into their final home in Orlando in 1976.

Matilde was known for her kind heart and welcoming spirit. She was always feeding and hosting family and friends from all over. Matilde ensured no one ever went hungry in her home and routinely emptied the cupboards to give food to people without homes. "Nana," as her grandchildren lovingly called her, was always ready to cook her incredible rice and beans.

Matilde retired from Kmart after many years of employment. In her final position at Kmart, she managed the jewelry department.

Matilde was a devoted Christian and a longtime member of the Tabernaculo Silo Church. She regularly attended services and enjoyed studying her bible. Matilde's favorite hobbies were sewing, gardening, and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Luis Borges, and sons Antonio "Tony" and William "Billy" Borges. She is survived by her daughter, Iris Schuler, and brother and sister Domingo Navarro and Felicita Diaz. She was loved and surrounded by her 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service/burial for Matilde will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Orlando, Florida, on Friday, March 18, 2022, at 11 am. Following the burial, there will be a reception at her home.

Matilde Borges, 89 años de Orlando, falleció Domingo, 13 de marzo 2022. Ella nació por 23 de mayo 1932 en San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, de madre, Ursula Felix y padre, Candido Navarro.

A los 18 años, Matilde viajó de Puerto Rico por los Estados Unidos para reunirse con su esposo, Luis Borges, quien fue en la armada de los Estados Unidos, estaba estacionado en Rhode Island. Siguiendo, el jubilado de Luis, la familia echó raíces en Florida. La familia Borges se mudó por el centro de Florida desde Miami donde ocupó la casa final en Orlando en 1976.

Matilde era conocida ser bondadoso y espíritu acogedor. Siempre estaba alimentando y hospedando a la familia y amigos de todo. Matilde se aseguraba que nadie tener hambre en su casa y vaciaría los armarios para las personas sin hogar. "Nana", el nombre que los nietos la llamaron, siempre estaba lista para cocinar su increíble arroz y frijoles.

Matilde se jubiló de Kmart después de muchos años. En su trabajo final, ella manejó el departamento de joyería.
