Maureen Elizabeth (Cathcart) White of Clermont, Florida passed away on May 3, 2016. Maureen Elizabeth Cathcart was born April 8, 1947 to Eva
and Noble Cathcart in the small town of Enniskillen, Northern Ireland.
Maureen immigrated to the United States as a pre-teen. Her family settled in Waltham, Massachusetts. Maureen graduated from Waltham High School and the Newton Wellesley School of Nursing. She began her long nursing career at Waltham Weston Hospital. She served many years at different hospitals in New England, New Jersey and California as the family moved. Later in her career, she provided in-home care to AIDS and hospice patients. Maureen was always passionate about helping patients with critical needs.
On December 31, 1971 Maureen married Larry, the love of her life. They remained happily married for more than 44 years until her passing. They have three children, Kimberley, Ryan and Margaret; a son-in-law, Adam; a daughter-in-law, Monika; and three grandchildren, Ethan, Rachel and Aiden. Family was very important to Maureen. Throughout her life, she surrounded herself with family and friends. She is also survived by her brother John, sister-in-law Pamela, brother-in-law Thomas, brother-in-law Skip, sister-in-law Sandy, brother-in-law Jack, and many loving nieces and nephews. This group of family and friends extended across the country and overseas as she lived and travelled extensively.
Maureen was an avid collector of arts and crafts, spending most of her life sewing, painting, creating porcelain dolls, and decorating her homes. She brightened many lives with her work having made her daughter's wedding dress and baby blankets for her friend's children and grandchildren, among many other special occasions.
Maureen also loved her dogs. Heather, her West Highland terrier, was her service dog and companion for the past 7 years. More recently, MacTavish, Mocha and Simba joined the family.
We welcome all to celebrate Maureen's life on Friday, May 6th at Newcomer Funeral Home at 895 South Goldenrod Road in Orlando. Calling hours are from 2:00pm until 3:30pm, with a service to follow immediately thereafter.
