Mei L. Pan

November 26, 1933 — January 24, 2024

Ms. Lai Meiching is a descendant of Chiu Fengjia, a famous Taiwanese gentry who resisted Japanese rule at the end of the 19th century. (her grandmother is the granddaughter of Chiu Fengjia). She was born on November 26, 1933 in Taichung, Taiwan to Lai Jenjie (father) and Lin Yuehying (mother). She is the eldest daughter. She has three sisters: Shiujen, Huijen, Peijen, and their younger brother Chienchiu.

Her education and growth were affected by World War II. She first attended Nippon Saiwai Elementary School in Taichung, and then transferred to Junggong Elementary School. After the war, she continued to attend Taichung Provincial No. 2 Middle School (junior high school), and the then one-year Taichung Home Economics School. (High School), she has been good at mathematical logic since she was a child. She was pretty and smart, and was particularly loved by her elders and teachers.

After graduation, she worked at the Central Bookstore in Taichung City. At the age of 28, she was introduced to Mr. Pan Tejen by the American missionary Rev.Glen Daniel Graber. They married and raised three children, Aihua, Eddy and Yahui (Laurie). She was diligent in taking care of the house, honoring her parents-in-law and helping her husband's relatives with their financial needs. When her children were young, she would find time to hand-make a highly profitable hook-type tie to help with the household finances. When her children were older and her expenses increased, she would use her summer vacation to work part-time at a holiday resort in Japan to help the family.

In 1979, together with her husband and her then 15-year-old daughter, she went to Argentina to open and run a restaurant with her sister, Shiujen, and her brother-in-law, Wang Dongsen. She returned to Taiwan in 1981, immigrated to the United States in 1988, and settled in Houston, Texas. After her husband suffered a serious stroke 25 years ago (1998), she decided to move to Orlando, Florida to be near her son, Eddy, who could help take care of them. Her husband passed away in 2009, and she lived by herself for 15 years relying on the Lord's grace and courage. During this period, she received a lot of love and care from many brothers and sisters near and far, like an angel, especially from EFC of Orlando. Her loving family always supported her in going to church every Sunday, even on 1/7/2024 before her death.

Ms. Meiching has been great at homemaking and baking since she was young - she is famous for her small mooncakes, red bean/white bean mochi, (super soft and chewy), bean paste cakes, and even stewed meat. She often gives away or charity sells handmade pastries as a bridge to care for the brothers and sisters she knows around her and to share the gospel with her friends who seek the gospel. In addition, she is also happy to use the professional acupressure skills she has mastered throughout her life and has specially learned in class, and any health knowledge she has absorbed and learned from the Japanese health channel, she can take the initiative to help and teach to those in need anytime, anywhere. Even in the later stages of her life, the accuracy and strength of her fingers in mastering various acupuncture points are still amazing.

On January 24, 2024, she was called by the Lord due to heart failure and other complications. She died at the age of 90, fulfilling her wish to live beyond the 89-year-old age of her father. Her life was filled with many healings from serious illnesses, "a bruised reed that He would not break, and a smoldering candle that He would not quench", and "the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want" is a life-giving testimony of gratitude.
