Baker, Melvin D. Sr., 85, of Huber Heights, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016.
A Proud Army Veteran of the Korean War, Melvin was also a Champion Golden Gloves Boxer and was an undefeated Horseshoe Pitcher. He was a short order cook for more than 40 years, and enjoyed playing the guitar and the harmonica, and was affectionately known as the "Harmonica Man".
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Rosie Bell (Dooley) and Ray Harold Baker, Sr., and by 3 brothers, Orville, Charles, and James Baker.
He is survived by his son, Melvin D. Baker Jr. "Butch"; 2 grandsons, Mel Ian (Angel) Baker, Michael (Ashley) Baker, all of Bellefontaine, OH; 11 great grandchildren, Michaela, Jordan, Mel Ian Jr, Evan, Landon, Ashtyn, Shaylin, Treyvin, Elijah, Xavier, and Makayla; 1 brother, Ray Baker, Jr; 2 sisters, Dorothy Sturgell and Margaret Wells; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation 11:30am to 1:00pm Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home 4104 Needmore Rd. where funeral service will follow at 1:00pm. Burial, with military honors, at Dayton National Cemetery.
