Michael A. D'Aprile, 90, departed this life in his own special way on June 4, 2010. Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather's superman heart obligingly beat its last as he peacefully eased into his eternal rest at Hospice of the Comforter, exactly as he wanted his life to end.
Born to Vito and Maria D'Aprile on November 16, 1919 in New York, NY he spent his childhood with his sisters Mary, Rita and surviving sister Lee. He served in the U.S. Army from 1937 to 1945, spending three years overseas as part of the Third Infantry Division during World War II. During his tour of duty he received the following decorations: the Good Conduct Medal, the Pre-Pearl Harbor Medal with bronze star, the Mediterranean-European Ribbon with eight battle stars and a spearhead for the Anzio Beachhead landing, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Croix de Guerre (for the liberation of France), the Unit Presidential Citation with oak leaf cluster, and the Purple Heart. After his service to his country in WWII he spent the majority of his years residing in Tampa, FL with his first wife Margaret (1917-1991) and son, Michael. He was a bookkeeper most of his career, retiring in 1984.
Full of humor, gratitude, dignity, and a positive attitude, he was easy going, witty, capable and social to his very last day. He had a daily love of crossword puzzles, ESPN, a good cup of morning coffee with his pancakes, cookies, and quality time with "the [feline] boys".
He is survived by his second wife Dorothy who resides in Tampa, FL and his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Corinne D'Aprile of Orlando, FL where he has lived the past year and a half. He is also survived by his granddaughters Kim D'Aprile of West Palm Beach, FL and Michelle Chynoweth and her husband Mike of Casselberry, FL and his great-grandson Michael Chynoweth.
His service will be held graveside at 11 am on Friday, June 11, 2010 at Florida National Cemetery near Bushnell, FL.
