Michael Peter Corkum Sr. ("Mike/Mikey/Papa"), passed away on August 6th, 2022 surrounded by his darling wife and family in his home in Saint Cloud, FL.
Michael was born July 8th, 1938 in Vineland, NJ to Helena Corkum and Gerard Corkum. As a young man he grew up in New Bedford, MA and graduated from high school and joined the Army. Michael found his darling wife Trena in Winter Park, FL and they married on February 5th, 1966. They have been married for 56 years with two children Tamatha L. Taylor ("Tami"), Michael P. Corkum Jr. ("Uncle") and one grandchild Edward Michael Taylor. They have lived in Saint Cloud, FL for a total of 42 years and created beautiful memories with their family, friends, and anyone willing to stop and chat.
He was a person that cared deeply for his darling wife and family. He would spend every last dime to see them safe and happy while trying to make them laugh and smile. Michael cared for his community by being a volunteer fighter for 14 years and known by all his neighbors to always be there if they needed help. Michael ("Papa") was a father figure to many of the kids in the community even if it was just an ear to listen to. His passion was always working with his hands which helped him start his own business.
Michael was a furniture refinisher for over 60 years. His craft helped him provide for his family and friends creating lasting memories. He was known around the state of Florida for doing major work on one of Disney cruise ships as well as helping with restoring furniture in the state capital building in Tallahassee, Fl. He would put his heart and soul into any job and would always have a smile on his face while he did it.
Michael always wanted to be surrounded by family and friends. He loved taking cruises all around the world with his darling wife and family. Whether it was seeing Alaska, beaches in the Caribbean, going up to the Smoky mountains or Ireland, he would always say the most beautiful thing in the world was his darling wife.
Many loved ones have gone before him including but not limited to, his daughter Tamatha ("Tami") Taylor, mother Helena Corkum, father Gerard Corkum, brother Andy Corkum, brother Joe Corkum, brother Gerard Corkum Jr., sister-in-law Patsy Cooper, sister-in-law Linda Ratliff. He is in heaven with them all now smiling down on us.
