Mike died on September 29, 2020, less than a year after being diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. He was so tough and bullheaded that we all thought he'd beat the beast, but God must have needed a good mechanic.
Mike was born July 6, 1956, in Long Beach, California, the fourth of nine children born to Adrian Nerrine (née Reed) and Lawrence August Roedell.
His parents preceded Mike in death, along with his brother, Jimmy Roedell, and sister-in-law, Joan Clark Roedell.
Mike leaves behind his children, Michael "Mike" Roedell of Bloomington, Illinois, Kenneth "Kenny" (Tasha) Roedell of Orlando, Florida, and Robert "Bert" (Lu Lu) Roedell of Orlando, Florida; his grandchildren, Jennifer Roedell, Ava Roedell, and Nathaniel Roedell; his siblings, Terry (Wendy) Roedell of Pontiac, Illinois, Gerry (George) Gilmor of Pontiac, Illinois, Joe Roedell of Pontiac, Illinois, Janeen (David) Lloyd of Fairbury, Illinois, Cheryl (David) Pennington of Fairbury, Illinois, Glen (Flossie) Roedell of Forest, Illinois, and Faye (Terry) Clark of Titusville, Florida.
After attending Odell Community High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. Before receiving a medical discharge, he also served at the Naval Training Center in Orlando, Florida.
He married Sandra "Sandy" Arlene Davis on December 29, 1976, and after having one son, Michael "Mike" Christopher Roedell, who currently lives in Bloomington, Illinois, they divorced in 1981. He then fathered two children, Kenneth "Kenny" (Tasha) and Robert "Bert" (Lu Lu) Roedell, who both currently live in Orlando, Florida, with his forever love, Teresa Mc Gowan, who waited for him at Heaven's Gate.
Mike may not have fathered a daughter, but that doesn't mean he didn't have one. His daughter-in-law Tasha Pennington Roedell was very close to Mike and cared for him right to the very end. They mutually adored each other.
Mike knew how to work hard and play hard. For 37 years he was a fuel and lubricant technician for Hubbard Construction Company in Orlando, Florida. After work, more often than not he could be found down at his best friend Billy's shop, drinking beer, swapping tall tales and laughing until the sun went down. Mike loved to watch the rain and to restore classic muscle cars with his brother Terry Paul.
A visitation for family members only will be held at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions – East Orlando Chapel, located at 895 South Goldenrod Road, in Orlando, Florida, on October 5, 2020, from 9 AM to 10 AM, and an open visitation will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM. Burial is set for 12:30 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, located at 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road in Gotha, Florida.
Mike wore his hair "Willie Nelson" style, only having it trimmed when it was long enough to be used to make wigs for children experiencing medical hair loss. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Locks of Love, 234 Southern Boulevard, West Palm Beach. Florida.
