Michael Wade Vermilyea, 68, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 13, 2023. He was born on February 27, 1955, in Syracuse, New York, to Lynn and Nancy Vermilyea. His family moved to Florida in 1958. Mike came to know Christ as his Savior when he was 16 years old. Mike met his future wife, Prudence, and they married on February 22, 1975. They were married for 48 years.
Everyone who knew Mike witnessed his dedicated and sacrificial character. The hardest and most dedicated worker, he always strived for excellence in everything he did. After a long and devoted career in banking and facilities management, Mike retired from AT&T in 2020.
Mike's heart was always focused on what others around him needed. One of the many ways this was clear to those closest to him was the way that he ended all of his prayers with asking the Lord to "keep us ever-mindful of the needs of others". His thoughtfulness of others was made evident through his "whatever it takes" mindset. It did not matter to him what his own personal cost would be as long as he was able to meet whatever need someone else had. He viewed any sort of obstacle that stood in his way as a challenge and greatly enjoyed brainstorming and implementing ways to overcome whatever that challenge was. He bravely faced his battle with cancer every day with courage and optimism, and he never once gave up.
Mike is survived by his wife of 48 years, Prudence; son, Ryan Vermilyea; daughters, Katie DeSanto and Sarah Blair; son, Timothy Vermilyea; sisters Linda LaClaire and Debbie Hardy; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Nancy Vermilyea.
There will be a private family memorial service on Sunday, June 18, at Newcomer Funeral Home E. Orlando Chapel.
