Migdalia "Millie" Garcia was born on February 21, 1948 in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico. Her parents were Yluminada Rodriguez Figueroa and Delfin Garcia Echevarria. She passed away on May 16, 2023 in Kissimmee, Florida.
Millie graduated from Prospect Heights High School in Brooklyn, New York. Her career after school began first, as an Office Manager at The Law Office of John Anthony Bonina, in Brooklyn, New York, and ended as a Legal Secretary for Michael Levine at Rappaport, Glass, Greene, and Levine, of Islandia, New York.
One of Millie's favorite trips was a two week vacation to Italy, its islands, and Switzerland. She was accompanied by her good friends Connie and Nancy. They took in the sites of the Blue Grotto on the island of Capri, the Italian islands near the Tyrrhenian Sea, and enjoyed music, dancing, and local cuisine with Connie and Nancy's families.
In 1986, Millie started a relationship with Joe Garcia. They eventually got married, and in 1992, Millie became a mother to their son Joseph. Millie and Joe's relationship lasted more than 37 years. Joe had children from prior relationships. His two sons John and Duane, and daughter Bianca. Joe's children, their families, and their children, became part of Millie's extended family. Millie assumed the role of grandmother for all of their grandchildren.
Later in life, Millie moved to Orlando, Florida. During this time, she joined the "Hug Your Neighbor" organization, where she assisted residents unable to financially and/or physically maintain their homes.
In addition to her parents, Millie was predeceased by her brother Gilberto Garcia, who was survived by his wife Juanita, and family. Millie was survived by her husband Joe; her son Joseph and his partner Natalie; her sister Luz Palmira Garcia, and family; her sister Myriam Elwell, and family; her sister Wilma Ramazzini, and family; her brother Roberto Garcia, and family; her sister Betsy Garcia, and family; her brother Michael Garcia, and family; and all of her nieces, nephews, and cousins, with whom she had close relationships with. She will be missed dearly by all.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11 AM, at Newcomer, 895 South Goldenrod Road, Orlando, Florida. A second memorial service will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 10 AM at Saint Francis Cabrini Roman Catholic Church, 134 Middle Country Road, Coram, New York, for all friends and co-workers Millie associated with in New York. The family asks that instead of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
