Miguel A. Garcia, 84 of Sanford, passed away peacefully in his sleep October 7, 2015. He was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba on September 29, 1931. He immigrated to the United States in 1967 on one of the last freedom flights and immediately moved to Manhattan, New York where he was introduced to snow. One year later, he moved to Miami, Florida where he was a furniture maker. He later moved to Dallas, Texas where he was a painter at Parkland Hospital. He retired and moved to Fenton, Michigan and then to Sanford, Florida. He enjoyed watching baseball and listening to the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alfonso and Josefa Garcia, nephew Jesus Vallejo and brother-in-law Israel Diaz.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maria Garcia and son, Miguel J. (Michele) Garcia of Sanford, Florida; sisters Catalina Hernandez and Alicia Diaz of Miami, Florida; 5 grandchildren, Jeanette Garcia, Bianca (Martin) Phillips, Katrina (Eric) Arthurs, Christopher Garcia and Eliana Garcia; and 4 great-grandchildren, Bradon Phillips, Tristan Phillips, Kennedy Arthurs and Evan Arthurs.
