Miriam Consuelo Morales Torres, 72, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on July 21, 2023, surrounded by family after a difficult journey with cholangiocarcinoma.
Miriam was born on December 7, 1950, to Ramon and Elena Morales in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala. At the age of eighteen, she immigrated alone to the United States in search of a better future and a means to help her family.
In 1971, Miriam met the love of her life, David Alfredo Torres, in New York. Miriam and David went on to marry and have three children: Nancy, Jenny, and David.
Everyone who knew Miriam knew her passions included gardening, cooking, church-related activities, and helping family, both near and far. She loved to gift her harvests and would often send friends and family home with a bag full of ripe tomatoes, eggplants, or mangos. Her cooking was unmatched, and her friends and family were often treated to her incomparable pupusas or homemade quesadilla. Miriam loved to laugh and could often be seen with a mischievous smile on her face for a joke she was preparing to tell. Her house was surrounded by flowers in bursts of magenta, purple, orange, and yellow; colors she so loved. She delighted in rehoming orchids in the crook of tree branches in front of her home where neighbors remarked on their beauty and her green thumb. For several years, Miriam served as treasurer of her church, Iglesia de Dios, and organized countless church functions. Her charitable heart extended to her home country, where she was always at the ready to help family and neighbors in her beloved Puerto Barrios.
Miriam was predeceased by her parents, Ramon and Elena Morales, and her brother, Ricardo Morales. She is survived by her husband, David Torres Sr.; her children, Nancy, Jenny, and David; and her grandchildren, Katherine, David, Matthew, Ava, Mateo, Francesca, Madison, and Sofia. She is also survived by her sister, Dora Aguilar; her sons-in-law, Timothy and Fernando; her daughter-in-law, Megan; and several dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd., Orlando, FL, 32822 on July 29, 2023, at 2pm.
