Myrtle Crussel, 95, passed away at home in Orlando, Florida on Friday, May 31, 2019. She was born in a small Osceola town called Holopaw on September 29, 1923 to Mittie and Sam Story.
She was the last survivor of nine brothers and sisters who would go to St. Cloud on weekends where she met her late husband, Chuck "Oakie" Crussel. Oakie was in the Air Force and stationed in New York, where at the age of 21, Myrtle got on a bus, traveled to New York, and on October 14, 1944, got married. Being in the military took her to places like Tripoli, Biloxi, MS, and Manchester, NH. In 1966, Oakie retired and moved back to Orlando, where Myrtle became a housekeeper at Colonial Plaza Inn, later known as Sheraton, where she worked for 20 years, passing up supervisory positions on numerous occasions.
Myrtle was a loving, caring mother of four, who loved family and always put them first.
She is survived by her daughters, Fran (Dan) Dunlap of Casselberry; Peggy Squillante of Casselbery; Linda (Orton) Douglas of Wewahitchika; and her son, Chuck Crussel of Orlando. Myrtle had seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Myrtle will be missed.
