Nancy Anne Werner Burns was born on December 30, 1941 in the city of Chicago, Illinois to Jacob and Mary Werner. She grew up in the Six Corners area of the near west side of the city. She graduated from Stevenson High School in 1959 and studied accounting at a business college. She married Ronald Jack Burns, a US Navy Veteran, in 1964 and they had two children in the years following, Laura Marie and Daniel Jack. In 1972 the family relocated to Sanibel Island, Florida where they raised their children. Nancy worked in real estate banking, and Ron worked as a mason and carpenter. The marriage ended after their children graduated high school. Nancy and her children moved to Southern California for two years, then back to Orlando, Florida. Her son Dan, his wife Beth, and their children Jack, Alana and Leland relocated back to Florida from Mississippi in 2003. Everyone enjoyed spending time together and living close to one another again. Her family was most recently joined by the addition of her grandson-in-law Michael Cory Fox, Brandi's husband, in October. She enjoyed gardening, movies, playing with her dog, history of Chicago, and going out to different restaurants with her family. She retired from the Institute of Internal Auditors in Altamonte Springs, Florida in 2009, and was living independently until her passing.
Nancy passed away on December 30, 2011, her seventieth birthday, from renal failure and congestive heart failure. She was an extraordinary woman, and her unconditional love was reciprocated as both of her children and all of her grandchildren surrounded her on her birthday.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, and one grandson, Sean David Burns. Any memorial donations may be given to Shriner's Hospitals for Children in her name.
