Nilda Freire returned home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, March 9, 2020. She peacefully passed away at the age of 86 in Orlando, Florida.
Nilda came to this country from Cuba, a home she loved, in 1962, under perilous condition, requiring her to leave her husband and many other family members behind. She made this sacrifice for her children' sake. She was eventually reunited with her husband, and they made a successful life in this country, but there were many others she never saw again, including her father.
Once reunited with her husband they settled in Lima, Ohio under the sponsorship of the Mennonite Church of Bluffton where she worked hard and spent the next decade learning the language and assimilating into this wonderful country and culture that she grew to love.
In 1974, she and her family relocated to Orlando where she and her husband would eventually become owners of Stillabower's, a working class style American breakfast and lunch restaurant that thrived in East Orlando. Her husband of 27 years passed in 1983.
Nilda retired and devoted her time to her children and her church, and to help raise her granddaughter, Angela, who lived up to her name and was her angel during those difficult years of mourning. The years passed and time healed.
Her favorite thing, in her final days, was that someone would sit and talk with her about life, current events, history, God, etc. It was a pleasure and honor to visit with her in that way.
She will be deeply missed, but, God's will be done. The Lord gives and the Lord takes, blessed be the name of the Lord. Amen
Nilda is preceded in death by her loving husband, Manuel Freire; and her parents, Dolores Garcia and Guillermo Garcia. She is survived by her beloved children: sons, Joe (Melanie) Freire and George (Carmen) Freire; and daughter, Nilda (Dennis) Freire-Jessmore. Nilda is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and many more family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Orlando), 895 S. Goldenrod Road, Orlando, Florida 32822. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm at Chapel Hill Cemetery, 2400 Harrell Road, Orlando, Florida 32817.
