Olive Jean Wright McPherson peacefully passed to heaven Monday, April 10, at her home at Oakmonte Village in Lake Mary, FL.
Born in 1930 in Greenwood, IN, she graduated from Whiteland High School in Whiteland, IN. and worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Co. in Indianapolis for many years.
She lived a life of service and volunteerism and encouraged her children and grandchildren to look for ways to make a difference in the world. Her first volunteer work was with the Riley Cheer Guild, an auxiliary organization that provided comfort to patients and caregivers at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. She continued her path of helping others shepherding Brownie and Girl Scout troops of the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana and PTA leadership at Indianapolis' Public School No. 88.
After moving to Central Florida in 1970 she served on various PTA committees at English Estates Elementary in Fern Park, FL. In addition, she was active in community organizations such as the Casselberry Women's Club and supported projects of the Bahia Shriners fraternal organization.
Her hobbies included gardening, collecting seashells, and crafting. She loved watching the Indianapolis 500, cheering for the Orlando Magic and her children's college football teams (University of Tennessee and the University of Florida) and the Purdue Boilermakers. She was a life member of the Clan Macpherson Association.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Robert G. McPherson, brothers Dale and James Wright, sister Betty Yatsko, and parents Roy and Mamie Wright.
She is survived by her three children Heather (Spencer Pettit) McPherson of Mount Dora, FL, Scott (Jo Ellen) McPherson of Orlando, FL, and Bonnie (George) McPherson of Umatilla, FL; and grandchildren Cori McPherson of Arlington, VA, Kyle McPherson of Orlando, FL, and beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Jean McPherson will be held from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday May 2 in the multipurpose room at Oakmonte Village, The Cordova, 1001 R0yal Gardens Circle, Lake Mary, Fla. 32746. Her ashes will be interred at Greenwood Cemetery in her hometown.
