O'Neil "Neil" Torres was born on April 25th, 1970, in Manhattan, New York, and later moved to Florida. Jesus welcomed our sweet Neil home on June 13th, 2021, at the young age of 51. Neil leaves behind his wife Brenda Preston-Torres, his three daughters, Gabriela "Gabby" Preston, Iris "Norma" Olivera, and Mercedes Gomez, his grandson, Preston Melendez, his mother Alicia Cuevas-Torres, his sisters Blanca Velez, and Maria Torres, his brothers Rickey Torres, and Travis Torres. Neil also leaves behind many other extended family members and dear friends. Neil is preceded in death by his father, Rafael Torres.
Neil served in the United States Marine Corps from 1988 until 1992. He was in company, "COLD STEEL," during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He was proud and honored to be able to serve America. Once a Marine, always a Marine!
In New York, Neil worked as security for New York University. Neil loved working here and telling stories about his daily adventures and meeting many different celebrities who attended this University.
In 2005, Neil began working for the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, starting as a telecommunications specialist trainee. Neil then graduated from the Correctional Academy, and in 2009-2016, he worked as a Detention Deputy at the John E. Polk Correctional facility. From 2016 until his death, Neil worked as a Classifications Specialist at the Sheriff's Office. In all, he served with the Sheriff's office for over 15 years.
Neil was a dedicated husband and father. He loved spending time with family, playing video games, and he enjoyed making everyone laugh. Neil had a passion for Star Wars and accessories. He also enjoyed cosplay during MegaCon and Halloween, and was a playful goofball and a big kid every chance he got. Neil was a good-hearted and good-natured man and was always ready to help a friend.
Neil – you are INCREDIBLY missed and will NEVER be forgotten! You have touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of you being a part of their life; you have left us with many memories that will be cherished forever.
