Opal J. Starr

January 7, 1932 — March 27, 2021

Opal Janet Thompson Starr, long time resident of Orlando, Pine Castle, Florida passed away peacefully in St. Cloud, Florida on March 27, 2021 at the age of 89, surrounded by family. Opal was born on January 7th, 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Rev. Wilson Calvin and Hazel Reid Thompson. She had one sister, Rachel Fay Fuller who was her lifelong best friend. She grew up in Georgia where she met the love of her life James Elwood Starr and they moved to Pine Castle, Orlando, Florida where they stayed and raised their three children, James Calvin Starr, Kevin Vance Starr and Brenda Sue Starr. Opal was a retired bus driver for Orange County Public Schools where she proudly drove for over 30 years. She was an incredible wife and home maker. She was a member of the ladies' quartet at Lock Haven Baptist Church where she loved to sing in the choir.

Opal was highly creative and took pride in everything she did from painting, cooking, gardening, grooming dogs, raising rabbits, sewing, quilting, crocheting, cake decorating, ceramics, to selling her artwork and produce at local flea markets with her family.

She was an amazing daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was well respected, loved, and adored. She loved Jesus, always reminded others to count their blessings, and would give the shirt off her back to help anyone in need. One of her favorite sayings was "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." To know Opal, was to know love. She was considered the 'rock' of her family and will be greatly and deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her father, Wilson C Thompson, her mother, Hazel Reid Thompson, her husband, James Elwood Starr, her sister, Rachel Fay Thompson Fuller and her spouse, William "Grady" Fuller, her granddaughter, Lindsey Michelle Ward, her brother-in-law, Douglas Hansel Starr, Sr. and his wife, Henrietta Starr and their son, Ronald Starr.

Survivors are her three children and their spouses: James Calvin Starr and Sandra Starr, Kevin Vance Starr and Patti French Starr and Brenda Sue Starr and Bill Moore. Opal was the proud Grandmother of Michael Starr, Angel Starr Winston, Daniel Starr, Kelli Starr Quinn, Paul Starr, Amber Starr Ward Gocklin and Kristle Nicole Ward and Step Grandmother to Larry Bartram and Penny Litle. Opal was a proud Great-Grandmother of 16 great-grandchildren.
