Patricia Simpson Dome of Altamonte, died October 15th, 2007 in her
sleep. She was 81. She is survived by her son Chuck Dome of Tavares,
Kathleen Dome Malpass of Altamonte, her Sister Janet Bonder of Merritt
Island, her grandson Lance Dome of Utah and three great-grandchildren,
Jenny, Alex and Daniel. Pat was born December 16th, 1925 in
Springfield, Massachusetts. Her family moved to Fern Park, Florida, in
Seminole County from Irvington, New York in 1935 when Pat was ten. They
bought property at the intersection of 436 and 17-92 and her parents
lived there until the mid 60's. Pat, her brother Forbes and sister
Janet attended Lyman High School, Longwood where Pat graduated in 1943.
After graduation, Pat joined the WAVES at 17. While in the Navy Pat was
a parachute rigger and was stationed at Lakehurst, NJ, The Banana River
NAS, now Patrick AFB, and The Jacksonville NAS where she met CPO Charlie
Dome and in January of 1945, married him. During Charlie's 20 year Navy
career, Pat raised their children and held down the fort when Charlie
was away at sea many months at a time. Pat bore four children, James in
1945, Chuck in 1947, Patty in 1949 and Kathleen in 1959. In 1959
Charlie retired from active duty and the family built their home on
Prairie Lake Drive in Fern Park, where they lived until 1980, raising
their family and swimming and sailing on the lake daily. In 1980 Pat
and Charlie, sold their house and bought a 37 foot sailboat and moved near
the beach in Indiatlantic, in Brevard County. They sailed to the
Bahamas for two months each year for six years until they sold their
boat and built a house in Palm Bay in 1986. When Charlie passed away in
1988 they had been married 43 years. Pat continued to live in Palm Bay
enjoying her passion for gardening and was a member and past president
of the WAVES National Space Coast Unit 75. In 1999 she had to forgo
driving and moved back to Seminole County to live with her daughter
Kathleen in Altamonte, moving most of her garden with her. She
continued to enjoy her gardening and swimming daily with Kathleen and
their two dogs. She suffered a stroke in 2001 and in 2003 and passed
away at Vitas Hospice in Winter Park in October. Memorial Services will
be held on Saturday, November 17th at noon at South Seminole Church of
