Paula Sue Chaney Shurr age 66, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep on 2/4/2014 in her home. She was born Paula Chaney on April 23, 1947 in San Jose, California. She was born to Peggy Duncan and Mr Chaney; a resident of San Jose, California.
Paula was a warm and generous woman who counted the homeless as some of her closest friends. She loved to craft, draw, crochet, and knit. She dreamed of one day having a full scale craft room to create.
Although she only had an 8th grade education she dreamed of being a history teacher as a child. Throughout her life she continued to be self-taught and valued the impact people made throughout history good and bad. Her daughter can remember being expected to answer spontaneous pop-quizs about famous people and know the impact of their influence.
Paula came of age during the 1960s although she married and had three children she continued to dream of freedom for herself and the world. When speaking of her children she would say, "Peggy came when we lost JFK, Julia came when we lost Malcome X, and Robbie came during "The Bridge over Troubled Waters" that was a difficult year."
Paula was travelled and experienced many different aspects of life. She married her true love later in life, Carl Shurr and married him on Valentine's day to commemorate their love. She enjoyed remarring him which she did several times (4) to celebrate. He proceeds her in death and his memorial can be viewed on the newcomer's website.
Paula shared with Carl the last 27 years of her life in their home in Orlando, Florida. She enjoyed two living children and is proceeded in death by one son. She has 9 grandchildren Mark Allen, Jeremy Ryan, Amanda Faith, Christopher Kyle and Hollie Nicole from Peggy. Rebecca Elizabeth, Hope Marie (AKA birthday baby), Cassandra and Kirk from Julia. Together they have given her 14 great-grandchildren. Paula had many adopted children, she supported the native children's fund, cherished the Calvin Keefer family, and was Godmother to the daughter of Jose Ortiz and family.
As to those who loved and cherished her, we stand together now and say "Thanks Mom for always having your heart and your door open"
