Peggy Ann Stamper

Born on April 21, 1935 , Peggy Ann Pope was the fifth of six children. 

Her father, Robert Pope was a dapper gentleman, who worked for the Atlanic Coastline Railroad, and served as Mayor of her hometown, Oxford, Alabama. Her mother, Annie, was a dedicated mother, and they lived in a modest home next to the home of her Aunt, Uncle and Cousins. Growing up in the shadow of the Great Depression, she had a simple life, her uncle Palmer, a college professor also grew a prodigious vegetable garden providing food for the families. Her mother Annie, cooked for the families, and was a telented stride pianist. They faithfully attended The First Baptist Church of Oxford, singing in the choir, sprituality and music were her passions….along with the Alabama Crimson Tide Football team. 

She moved to St. Louis, Missouri after graduating from High School to live with her cousin and family, and in a chance train ride met Bob Stamper, a sailor in the US Navy, who also shared her passion for spirituality and music….and food. After some persistant courting on the part of Bob, she agreed to marry him, and they settled in Orlando, Florida. They raised 4 boys, Daniel, Craig, Robby and David amidst a home filled with music, faith and fresh made biscuits. Each of the boys inherited this passion for music, encouraged by Bob and Peggy to follow their passion, made music a carreer. Craig, a music minister, tragically was killed in a car accident directly related to the events of 9/11. 

Peggy lived a selfless life, devoting herself to her family, faith and friends. She welcomed all with a gentle and loving spirit, the only thing she treated meanly was the piano, and any team other than Auburn who was playing against The Crimson Tide. 

Peggy also was a determined individual, overcoming stage 4 cancer, and after the passing of Bob, lived on her own. She always seemed to find a way to accomplish what she wanted. 

A tribute to this determination, she spent her last day exactly the way she wanted, at her home, and in her favorite chair….on a Saturday looking forward to the opening game for her beloved Crimson Tide. 

Peggy is survived by her sons, Daniel, Robby and David and sister Barbara.
