On Thursday, June 10, 2021, Peggy M. Thompson, loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother to five children, passed away at the age of 92. Peggy was born on February 26, 1929, to James and Lena Mayo. She graduated college from the University of Tampa with a degree in Music Education. On September 16, 1950, she married Jesse J. Thompson, with whom she raised five children.
In addition to performing in college, Peggy was in the first Tampa Symphony Orchestra. She was employed as a music teacher and band director in the Tampa school system until retiring to raise her children. While working, she put her husband through Law School. While raising her children, Peggy continued to make a difference by holding positions such as PTA president, Cub Scout troop leader, and Girl Scout leader, and later through P.E.O., a Philanthropic Educational Organization. She enjoyed playing bridge and needlepoint.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents, James and Lena Mayo; her husband Jess; and two of her sons, Rick and David. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara and Jessica, and her son Scott. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, her sister Ann, and one brother, Wayne.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at St. Richard's Episcopal Church in Winter Park. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to P.E.O. or the charity of your choice.
