Phyllis Landy Benesh

June 23, 1929 — January 30, 2022

Phyllis Jeanne (Brown) Landy Benesh, age 92, of Longwood, Florida passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022, surrounded by family.

Phyllis was born on June 23, 1929, just outside of Vandergrift, PA, daughter of the late Samuel and Violet Louise (Shaffer) Brown. She spent her working career as a music and art teacher.

In her youth, Phyllis was an accomplished piano player. She graduated from Vandergrift High School and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania (then known as State Teachers College at Indiana) where
she received her Bachelor of Science degree. She continued her education at the University of Pittsburgh. She lived in New Kensington, PA for many years. After the death of her first husband, Alfred, Phyllis
moved to the Fort Myers, FL, area and lived there until moving to Hendersonville, NC, where she loved the mountains and the community.

After the death of her second husband, Matthew, she returned to Florida. Phyllis enjoyed oil painting and left behind many original works of art. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and was proud of her accomplishment of visiting all 50 states. She also fondly remembered her visit to Japan. One of her favorite places was Sanibel Island, where she collected shells. She was an avid reader and collector of minerals.

Later in life, she enjoyed her two cats, Smokey and Abby. She also enjoyed her family and friends and always looked forward to the next "cousins reunion."

Phyllis is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Aldrich and Susan (Craig) Bostic, and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Alfred Landy; and her second husband, Matthew Benesh.

Interment will take place in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, PA.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Wildlife Federation, an organization she supported.
