R.C. Mitchell, Jr., 70, of Orlando, FL, departed this life on August 23, 2024. R.C. was born in Memphis, Tennessee to his late parents R.C., Sr. and Gerdie May Mitchell on June 8, 1954. After high school he moved to Aurora, IL where he met and later married the love of his life, Bonnie Kay (McKinney). They later had three children.
R.C. was a hardworking man who always put God and his family first. He was a . Deacon, Elder, Usher, and active member of Second Presbyterian Church of Aurora, IL for 35 plus years where he raised his family. He was devoted to being in the lives of all his children and grandchildren. He was a kind, caring man who found joy in providing for his family. He worked for General Mills for 30 years and the state of Illinois for 12 years. He found joy in listening to music, seeing his family happy, and watching his favorite shows and sports on TV.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Gerdie Mitchell; father, R.C. Mitchell, Sr.; his brother, Terry Mitchell; his sisters Annette Thomas and Betty Young; and his late son-in-law, Christie Hosea Knowles, III. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his children, Nina (Christie) Knowles; Contessa (Samuel) Awe, and Rashad (Katie) Mitchell; his grandchildren Christie (CJ), Zhole, Rashad (Coltan), Malachi, Zion, Trey, Zachary, and Lettie; his half-brother, Jerry Ware, Sr.; his brother, Larry Mitchell, Sr.; and his sister Edna Turner; his devoted nephew, Claibourne Young, III along with a host of other nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 4pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Orlando Chapel, 895 South Goldenrod Road, Orlando, FL 32822.
