Raimundo Melendez

March 15, 1937 — June 16, 2024

Raimundo Melendez Colon was born on March 15, 1937, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024, in Orange City, FL.

He dedicated his life to service via the US Army and Christian Church. In the mid 1950’s, he served in the US Amry for several years and was honorably discharged from service. When entering civilian life, he worked in aviation which was his passion.

His civilian career started with Eastern Airlines and later at American Airlines. In 1964 he started work at Eastern Airlines in New York City and transferred to Carolina, PR after 2 years. Raimundo worked with Eastern until the company closed in 1989 and moved to American Airlines for the rest of his career.
He retired in 2002 where he spent the rest of his time surrounded by family in Florida.

His domestic life was centered around providing for this wife and children. While living in New York City, he met his wife Luz Maria in the 1950’s and they were married on January 14, 1961. Soon after came their three children with Alan in 1962, Jeanette in 1964, and Elisa in 1966. The family expanded further will all his grandchildren born in the 1990’s and a great-granddaughter in 2013.

His education was centered around his other passion, theology. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology in 1985 where he studied in Rio Piedras, PR.
The events of his childhood are regarded as the source of his faith. His childhood was difficult due to health issues such as asthma. A miracle he credited towards igniting his faith was the healing of his severe childhood asthma and other ailments.

Raimundo became passionate in the church, and in later years he took a mentorship role in a group named “Hombres de Pasion y Destino” (Men of Passion and Destiny) which was centered around mentorship and guidance for men. He was a strong believer and active member of the Christian community wherever he lived. He was known to write verses on used envelopes and kept them on his desk and around his home as inspiration.
Raimundo will be remembered as a hardworking man who dedicated his life to providing for his family and serving the communities he has touched through his faith and generosity.

His final resting place will be the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.
