Tryst Raymond (Ray) Hensell, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on April 25, 2023, at the age of 86.
He is survived by his five children: Dorothy Garalde, Alice Hensell Porter (Joe), Katheran Rae Lowe (Bobby), Tryst Raymond Hensell, Jr. (Suzanne), and Patricia Ann Hensell. He is also survived by six grandsons, John Porter (Karen), Zach (Stephanie) and Elijah Lowe, Matthew and Stephen Hensell, and Tristan Garalde, as well as two great-grandchildren, Audrey Cornell and Bryan Aduddle, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ray was born on August 5, 1936, the youngest of 13 children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lee Hensel and Anna Laura (née Huff), twelve siblings, and two wives: Patricia (née Wolfe), with whom he had his five children, and Marjorie (née Dancheck), to whom he was married for over 20 years.
An avid Washington Redskins and Atlanta Braves fan, Ray worked for The Washington Post for over 30 years. He was also a Mason and a member of Moose Lodge 2427 in Orlando, Florida.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, Fairways Country Club in The Masters Club, 14481 Augusta Road, Orlando, Florida. Visitation will be from 2:00-2:30 p.m., followed by a service at 2:30 p.m.
Since Ray was born in the Washington area and lived there for much of his life, a service will be held in Springfield, Virginia, on June 7, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, Virginia. All friends and family are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Advent Health Central Florida Hospice.
