Raymond Kraemer

June 14, 1922 — January 17, 2014

Raymond L. Kraemer, 91 of Orlando, Florida passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014. He was born in Toledo, Ohio. A lifelong musician, Ray learned to play trombone at an early age. A Staff Sergeant in the Army, Ray played in Joe Josephs' 300th A.G.F. Band, American Sector, Berlin, Germany, during World War II, winning Berlin's Best Band Contest in 1946. After the war he continued his music, touring the country playing big band music with a dance band.

Ray moved to Orlando to open Kraemer Music House, a music repair shop. He continued his music for many years, playing numerous venues including Disneyworld. Until recent years, he enjoyed playing in his favorite jazz band.

A pilot, Ray delighted his nieces and nephews when they were young with rides in his two-seater airplane named "Squeaky," and chats on his CB radio. He was a Lt. Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol for many years, earning the Distinguished Service Award for outstanding service from November 1965 to October 1969, and later the Meritorious Service Award for service in a duty of great responsibility from February 1974 to May 1977. Not one to give up flying, he later enjoyed "flying" on the flight simulator on his computer.

Ray loved to tinker and was an avid hobbyist. He built and raced remote-controlled boats and built a detailed model train set. In his later years, Ray constructed elaborate matchstick models, including the Eiffel Tower, London Bridge, and the Taj Mahal. His enthusiasm earned him the nickname "Stick Man" at his favorite hobby store.

Ray played golf for many years at the Rio Pinar Estates Golf Club. His golfing companions will miss his wry sense of humor.

Deeply religious, Ray was a founding member of Good Shepherd Church in Orlando and a life time member of the Knights of Columbus.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Kraemer, and his sister Jane Kraemer Nirschl. He will be missed greatly by his sister-in-law Ramona Kramer and his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his niece, Judith Horton and her husband John; sister-in-law, Ramona Kraemer as well as many other nieces and nephews.
