Despite operating a 50-year-old family vacuum and sewing machine business, Rhonda Campbell-Summey's passion was never either of the machines she sold. It was the people she sold them to. Before sending you on your way with more vacuum bags or a repaired hose, Rhonda would always ask about your family before mentioning her own. And what you thought was just one more task crossed off your list of errands became a quick catch-up with a good friend. Over the past few years, customers that have entered her family's Sir Vac and Sew in Fern Park have caught themselves talking less about themselves and asking more about Rhonda and her fight with cancer.
On Saturday, March 6th, Rhonda Campbell-Summey passed at age 61 at Advent Health Hospice in Altamonte Springs. Until the end, she was a loving wife of 37 years to her husband, John Summey, and caring mother to her only son, Jonathan (Tyler) Summey. Besides her two favorite men, Rhonda is survived by her loving mother, Nancy Campbell; two sisters, Cheryl Campbell-Kelly and her husband, Kevin, and Susan Campbell; her brother, James (Rick) Campbell and his wife, Jodi. Loved ones visited Rhonda, whispered "I loved you's" and received them in return before her passing.
Rhonda's life was always filled with this kind of love. She was born on October 29, 1959 in Richmond, VA; daughter to parents Nancy (Craig) Campbell and the late James R. Campbell. On April 29, 1984, she married her husband, John. Together they supported their only child, Jonathan, through Cub Scouts and college football. While being a woman of family and faith, Rhonda continued her family's business, and helped it thrive by relocating and expanding their store. Though she distanced herself from the business due to her illness, Rhonda's compassionate and kind energy still fills the building. She will no longer be able to ask about how your granddaughter is doing in 3rd grade, or if you and your wife ever decided to take that summer vacation, but her life and legacy will live on through her family and the relationships she maintained while building a business all her own.
