Richard Albert Sauer, 90, of Orlando Florida, passed away on February 22, 2025, after a two-month battle with cancer.
Dick was born on July 8, 1934, in West Brighton, Staten Island, New York. He was the firstborn of three sons born to Milton and Jeanette Sauer. Dick had a happy childhood growing up in Lindenhurst, New York. Dick graduated from Lindenhurst High School in 1952.
He met his beloved, Adele "Trixie" Catherine Crosby in his late teens on a blind double date where he was dating the other girl. He instantly fell in love with Trixie and with time stole her from the other boy. They were wed in marriage on November 23, 1956. The marriage lasted 67 years until the passing of Trixie in 2024. The marriage produced three children, Ronald, Cindy, and Rebekah.
Shortly after the marriage, Dick was drafted into the Army. He stayed for a 25 year career of which he was very proud. They were stationed together in numerous domestic and overseas locations, and he had two solo tours, one in Korea and one in Vietnam where he was the chief administrative aide for the commanding general, William Westmoreland. Dick completed his army career at the Pentagon where he again served as Gen. Westmoreland's top administrative aide, retiring in 1981.
During his Army career, he graduated from Tampa University with a bachelor's in Business Administration. Following his Army career he entered Capital Bible Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology. Dick felt the Lord was leading him into Christian ministry. Dick had proclaimed his love for the Lord and the plan of salvation many years before this when he was stationed in Utah. During his years of Christian ministry he served in various capacities including as an administrator of overseas missionary activities, a prison chaplain, an instructor at Washington Bible College, the chief finance officer of a Christian school, and a church pastor and elder. His final post was as a hospice chaplain for the Hospice of the Comforter where he served the greater Orlando area.
He did not retire until the age of 77 and then spent his time reading theology, history, biographies, and many other books. He also enjoyed Canadian football and car shows. His love of cars stated in childhood and lasted his lifetime. He and Trixie enjoyed boat rides, spending time with their growing family, and traveling. They enjoyed being around each other all the time in their "twilight" years. He and Trixie lived in Orlando, Florida for 31 years, the longest they had spent in one place.
Dick is predeceased by his parents, Milton and Jeanette Sauer, his brother Ronald Sauer, and his granddaughter Deborah Still. He is survived by his three married children, son Ronald Sauer(Beth), daughter Cindy Ingram(Tim), and daughter Rebekah Anderson(Chris). He is also survived by five grandchildren, Julie Bolthouse(Evan), Tegan Ingram, Emily Anderson, Eriq Anderson, and Eli Sauer. He had three great grandchildren, Malakai Ingram, Charlie Bolthouse, and Elizabeth Bolthouse. He is also survived by his brother Paul Sauer(Venus) and nephew Jonathan Sauer. His family will greatly miss their Patriarch.
