Richard Junior Hill

June 1, 1929 to September 25, 2015

Richard Hill passed away peacefully, at the age of 86, in his longtime hometown of Sanford, Florida. Though born in El Paso, Texas, Richard experienced his youth in many states: Texas, California, Arizona, North Carolina, Florida and Tennessee. His family eventually settled in North Carolina where he would meet his wife Catherine Garner Hill and start their family. Richard and Catherine moved to Sanford, Florida with their four children on Labor Day weekend 1970.

Richard's creativity and encyclopedic knowledge of, and interest in, all things never ceased to amaze those knew him best. His enthusiasm for knowledge inspired his children and grandchildren, who will pass on that virtue. Richard often expressed his love for his wife Catherine; children Shirley Cannon, Perry, Stanley, & Susan; grandchildren Brandy, Jeffrey, Amanda, Jennifer, & James "Stan"; and great-grandchildren Austin, Lily, Mya, Olivia, Gavin, Evan, & Ezra.

Richard is survived by his wife, four children, five grandchildren, seven (soon-to-be eight) great-grandchildren, and brother Kenneth Hill of Charlotte, NC. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Richard Walter Hill & Mary Rose Hill, and sisters, Joanna Hill Fesperman & Celestine Hill Dennis, though he talked of them often and fondly. His life will be celebrated at a private family gathering, to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association (www.donate.heart.org).
