Richard Vernon Llewellyn, born May 29, 1935, was a hard-working, proud husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged as an E-3. He retired from Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) as a Watch Engineer, and he took pride in the fact that he was retired longer than he worked.
When he wasn't working for OUC, he was tending to his family and his farm. Farming was always an integral part of his life. He had a flourishing citrus farm for many years until the freeze of 1985 diminished most of the crops. Cattle then became the primary focus on his farm. After Orange County bought out the 2500 acres of leased land for conservation, many of the cattle were sold off or moved to his private land where he enjoyed them for many more years. His cattle were gentle giants, and he would often brag about how much they were treated as pets rather than invasive branding and tagging. Further, he was an avid gardener, most famous for his black-eyed pea patch. Freezers were often stocked with many bags of peas grown picked fresh from the garden. Being a man of many talents, Richard was also an accomplished fiddle player. He played solo and in a few bluegrass pickup bands.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, William Bennett Llewellyn and Ruth Lenore Llewellyn. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Florence Llewellyn; his children, Larry V. Llewellyn and Teri L. Reynolds; his grandchildren, Justin Westerman and Cierra Westerman; and his great-grandchildren, Davin Westerman, Connor Westerman, and Dwight Westerman.
