Deacon Dick Rupp of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Edgewater Drive in Orlando was born in Peru, Indiana and was raised there and in Columbus, Ohio. He Graduated from Aquinas College High School, was married to Evelyn (Eve) Deuchar on July 2nd, 1951. Shortly after their marriage, Dick received his draft notice and spent the next two years in the Second Armored Battalion in Kentucky and later in Germany.
After discharge, he served a four year apprenticeship as a machinist and worked for Martin Marietta, and later as an animation technician for Walt Disney World.
Wishing to serve the Lord more completely, he studied for five years, and was ordained by Bishop Thomas Grady in June,1996 . He spent the years after that helping to feed the poor and visit the sick at home and in the hospital. He also preached at several masses each month. His life was totally devoted to service until the end. He died September 18, 2007 at 2:15 p.m.
He is survived by his son, Richard Joseph Rupp and two daughters, Marjorie Anne Coughlin, and Mary Elizabeth Rupp. He was predeceased by his grandson Michael Rupp and his brother Robert Rupp, and his sister Margaret Villalva. He has four granddaughters, one grandson, and one great grandson.
Vigil and viewing will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4001 Edgewater Drive in Orlando from 4:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, September 21. Mass of the Resurrection will be said by Bishop Thomas Wenski at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2007. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant House or Coalition for the Homeless.
