Richard Hermes Workinger, Iii

July 7, 1989 — July 25, 2021

Richard "Ricky" Hermes Workinger, III was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He left this world suddenly on July 25th, 2021, at his home in Orlando, Florida. At just 32 years old, Ricky was bursting with life, and his trademark sense of humor, until the very end.

Ricky was born July 7th, 1989, in his much-loved hometown of West Palm Beach, Florida. Anyone that met him would quickly learn that he was from "down south". From his earliest years, Ricky showed his huge heart in everything he did. A constant protector, he would walk his older sister to the bathroom each night because she was scared of the dark. In his later years he would be the man that would walk a woman to her car after work to keep her safe.

He attended school at Royal Palm Beach High School where he built lifelong friendships. Ricky spent his teenage years on a skateboard or with a camera in his hands. He started small, skating the bridge to Lake Belvedere Estates, and eventually heading to Ramp-48 where he would lose his front teeth to a half-pipe. It wouldn't be long before he and his friends discovered Black Tops downtown, and when they outgrew that they found their way to Miami on the Tri-Rail.

After High School, Ricky would spend the better part of his 20s enjoying the South Florida sun out on the water with his friends or bartending at some of Palm Beach County's most iconic waterfront restaurants. Few things made Ricky happier than crafting a cocktail from scratch and watching the recipient enjoy. Ricky loved to take care of people, and one of the ways he loved to show that was in his cooking. He could often be found in the kitchen, cooking his favorites, and handing out plates. He was best known by his family for perfecting a street taco recipe with tons of fresh cilantro and queso fresco. A voracious reader, it was common to see Ricky lounging outside with a book about WWII drinking an ice cold Modelo.

Ricky would eventually change careers and work alongside his family as a concrete finisher. While the work was tough, he relished the comradery of his coworkers. One of Ricky's best qualities was that of the storyteller. He would often come home from work and tell the most animated stories about his day making the most mundane situations hilarious or fascinating. In early 2020, Ricky moved to Orlando seeking new opportunities. While there he started his most important job yet, as uncle to his nieces Ella and Maddie.

Ricky is survived by his parents, Richard Workinger II and Barbara Workinger; his sister Jessica (Ryan) Saulsbury; his nieces Ella and Maddie Saulsbury; his grandmother Dianne Hill; his 20 aunts and uncles; his 47 first cousins; and the innumerable friends he made along the way. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Richard Workinger Sr and Carol Workinger; his grandfather Frank Hill; as well as several other family members.

Ricky will be sorely missed by all those whose lives he touched. We will gather to remember him at 3PM on August 14th, 2021, at Palms West Funeral Home in Royal Palm Beach Florida. After his service we will ask the group to move to another location to enjoy food and drink and celebrate his beautiful life.
