Rita (Ruschman) Oettinger, 93, formerly of Closter, NJ and Palm Coast, FL died peacefully in her sleep on July 10 in Orlando, FL. Rita was a devout Catholic who was married for over 40 years to her husband Lou, who pre-deceased her. Together they raised 6 children who now reside in NJ and FL. She is survived by her son Tom (wife Kathy) in Lake Worth, FL, son Jack who also pre-deceased her, daughters Donna in Cresskill, NJ, and Maureen (husband Geoff Millett) in Dumont, NJ, sons Paul (wife Anna) in St Cloud, FL and Jim (wife Lindsay) in Closter, NJ.
Her lifetime unconditional love for her 6 children and her understanding of "family" were a testament to her Christian spirit. Her door was always open to family and friends and her outgoing personality would light up a room. Losing her beloved husband at an early age left an indelible mark on her spirit, yet she continued to be the matriarch of a large extended family. Her family has found solace in knowing that she is finally reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Lou.
In addition to her 6 children, Rita's legacy includes 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who loved her deeply and will miss her love, smile and guidance.
Visitation will be from 3-7 PM on Friday, July 15 at Moritz Funeral Home in Closter, NJ. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, July 16 at 10 AM in St Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Cresskill, NJ, followed by interment alongside Lou at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tenafly, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please honor her by a donation to Camp Acorn Inc., a camp for children with special needs attended by her grandson (Camp Acorn Inc., PO Box 1383, Paramus, NJ 07653).
