Robert Baker Hale, Sr. age 95, of Village on the Green, Longwood, Fl. died on March 16, 2007. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy McCarthy Hale.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Robert B. Hale, Jr. and daughter-in-law Shirley R. Hale of Huntsville, Alabama; daughters and sons-m-laws, Elizabeth Hale Barnett and Dr. Crawford F. Barnett, Jr., of Atlanta, Georgia, Dorothy Hale Carter and Charles K. Carter of New Bern, NC. and Laura Hale Franks and Lee B. Franks of Columbus, Ohio; Nine grandchildren, Robert Baker Hale, III. Porter Tull Hale, Nelson Holland Hale, Anne Hale Helmly, Dr. Crawford F. Barnett. III, Robert Hale Barnett, Frank Haden Edwards, III, Laura Elizabeth Edwards DomviIle, Laura Elizabeth Jones and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hale was predeceased by his grandson. Peter Downing Howell, Jr.
Mr. Hale was born in Watertown, Tennessee, December 28, 1911. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1934 and was a lifetime supporter and active alumnus of the University. He spent his 39 year business career as an employee of the DuPont Company, the last 22 years in Wilmington, Delaware. He was Manager of Personnel and Industrial Relations, Fabrics and Finishes Department of DuPont when he retired in 1972. He served on the Board of Governors of the DuPont Country Club for six years and as President of the Board. He was a member of the Wilmington Country Club and active in church and civic affairs serving as an Elder, Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, and in leadership positions with Red Cross and The United Way.
Mr. Hale retired in Tequesta, Florida, in 1973 and was an Elder, First Presbyterian Church and on the Board of Governors, Tequesta Country Chub. He moved to Village on the Green, Longwood, Florida in 1992 and was a member of Wekiva Presbyterian Cburch, Longwood, and the University Club of Winter Park, Florida.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Brede Wilkins Scholarship Fund, 500 Village Place, Longwood, Fl. 32779 or to Vanderbilt University, V.U. Station B, #357727, 2301 Vanderbilt Place, Nashville, TN 37235-1727.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Village on the Green, 590 Village Place, Longwood.
