Robert Donald Rowand, Sr, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 in Orlando, Florida.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine Rowand (nee Jackson of Pine Hill, NJ) and his children Robert Jr, Jeffrey and Penny all of Orlando.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents J. Bishop and Marie Smith Rowand, and his brothers Samuel, Francis (Franny), Edward (Skip) and Fred (Butch) of New Jersey.
Bob was born in Clementon, New Jersey on July 31, 1932. He attended Haddon Heights High School and graduated from Camden County College. Bob is a US Army veteran and served in Korea as a Morse Code radio operator.
As a member of Laurel Lodge No.237 F&AM, Bob was a Mason for 53 years and became Master of the Lodge in 1972. He enjoyed serving his community and remained active in the Lodge well into his retirement years.
Bob worked for RCA/GE Aerospace in Moorestown, NJ, as a Test Methods Engineer assigned to the Aegis Naval Combat System projects. He participated in both the Golf and Bowling leagues and was known for his nightly summer time practice of hitting a bucket of golf balls. He resided in Orlando, FL for 20 years following his retirement.
His family will miss his off-beat sense of humor, his sound effect filled story-telling and his random song whistling. He was best buddies with numerous family dogs and cats and learned not to ask questions when a new one appeared.
To celebrate Bob's life, donations can be made to any animal assistance organization in his name.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
