Robert (Bob) Neil Koger, age 79, of Orlando, FL passed away Friday February 12, 2016.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Darlene Maynard Koger; his wife of 3 years, Diane Anderson Koger; and his parents, Claude and Verna May Koger.
He is survived by his children, Robert Dale Koger and Tammy Jo-Lene Gay; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and siblings, Jean Marks, Jo Ann Brown, and Richard Koger.
Bob was born in Rhodell, WV on June 24, 1936. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and then settled in Orlando in 1958 where he worked for Lockheed Martin as an electrical engineer for over 40 years on the Pershing Missile and Apache Helicopter programs. He was very proud of the service he provided on the ground to the Army in Saudi Arabia and Iraq during Desert Shield/Desert Storm as a civilian support specialist. He looked a lot like General Schwarzkopf and got a kick out of being mistaken for him by the troops.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He was always ready to help others and would literally give you the "shirt off his back". He was especially passionate about helping military veterans and their families and served in the American Legion for 22 years and was a member at Pinecastle Post 286 where he held numerous chairmanships and offices, including Post Commander. He also served on the 6th District level as Commander and on the State level as Blood Donor Chairman. He was well known for coordinating the 6th District Bowling tournament for years with the proceeds going toward the Boys and Girls State program.
The family will receive friends on Friday February 19, 2016 from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm with the funeral service starting at 1:00 pm at the Newcomer Funeral Home (East Orlando Chapel), located at 895 S. Goldenrod Road, Orlando, FL 32822.
Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park, Winter Park, FL.
