Robert L. Meredith, 91 of Orlando, Florida passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014.
Robert (Bob) was born on June 27, 1922 in Fairmont, West Virginia to the late Hugh and Opal (Talkington) Meredith. He moved to Orlando, FL after retiring from the United States Army in January 1968. Bob was a Master Sergeant in the 99th infantry during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge where he was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After the war, Bob returned to West Virginia and joined the local Army National Guard unit in which he earned the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. In 1950 his Guard unit was activated, sending him to Germany once more and returning him to active duty. Bob remained in the military for a total of 27 years. His duty assignments took him and his family to Germany, Japan, Korea and France.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen Lynn Meredith and son-in-law Leibert Underwood. He is survived by his daughters Marilynn M. Underwood and Jennifer J. Cunningham (Robert D. Cunningham); grandchildren: Shannon Fender (Chris Fender), Kevin Cunningham (Raquel Cunningham) and Allen Cunningham; great-grandchildren: Peyton Fender and Brody Cunningham, all of Orlando.
A family service and inurnment will be held for Robert and his wife, Helen at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on their anniversary date, April 4th.
