Robert J. "Buzzy" Mankovich

November 14, 1930 — May 12, 2024

Robert J. Mankovich passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Orlando home at the age of 93 on May 12, 2024. Robert “Buzzy” Mankovich was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend to many.

Robert was born in NJ to Stanley and Anna Mankovich in Passaic, NJ on November 14, 1930. He was a diligent worker and grew up with two brothers and a sister in NJ. He started dating his high school sweetheart, Shirley, in 1947 and they were married on December 2, 1950 in Wyckoff, NJ. They truly were two souls with but a single thought, two hearts that beat as one.

In January 1952, Robert received a personal invitation from Uncle Sam to join the United States Marines. He completed his training as a road machinery engineer at Camp LeJeune, NC. He served in active duty until January 1954, was a Korean War veteran, and was honorably discharged in January 1960.

Robert and Shirley then built their life together for many years in NJ. Robert was a milk truck driver when he and Shirley began their family in 1956. In 1964, they started a ready-mix concrete business, Sussex Redi-Mix, and worked together side-by-side with much success. After selling the business, they retired and traveled around the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and took a cruise to Europe. They loved traveling in their RV with their faithful canine companions, Taffy and Sheba. Eventually in the 1980’s, they moved to Florida like all retired snowbirds do!

Robert had various hobbies over the years. He took up flying and earned his pilot’s license in 1966. He loved flying and took to the skies every chance he had. He also enjoyed touring around on his motorcycle, fishing from his boat, and became an avid golfer. He played in tournaments and took home some impressive trophies. Robert loved to fix anything and always tinkered around the house fixing whatever he could. He built several pieces of furniture for Shirley, and even made his own set of golf clubs. He always wanted to keep busy, even in his 90’s.

Robert is survived by his two children, Cynthia “Cindi,” and Robert “Bobby,” along with three grandchildren, Dillon, Scott, and Vanessa, and five great grandchildren. Robert will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Orlando, FL alongside his beloved wife, following a service at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on June 15, 2024. Military honors will follow the mass at the church,

The family requests no flowers or charitable donations, just your prayers for Robert, and your fond memories of this wonderful man. He truly lived a long life filled with many adventures and much happiness.
