Robert William Welch, 88, of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2022. Robert was born on April 11, 1933, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the youngest of six children born to Kathleen Ducey and William J. Welch.
After graduating from Milton High School, Robert enlisted in the Navy. While stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, Robert met Frances Hungerpiller, a nursing student at the Medical University of South Carolina. They married on August 10, 1956.
In 1961 Robert enlisted in the Air Force and Frances continued her nursing career with the family now including two daughters, Laura and Ann Marie. Robert continued to use his mechanical skills with various Defense contract companies. After several moves and one more child, Robert Jr., the family settled in Orlando, Florida. Robert began a second career as a barber that continued until age 83.
An avid reader, Robert was an expert on many topics which include baseball, military history, and aviation. He enjoyed music, especially Jazz. He loved Boston sports, most importantly, the Boston Red Sox. He was a member of the American Legion and supported the USO.
Robert is proceeded in death by his wife of 63 years, Frances Hungerpiller, brothers, Thomas Welch and William Welch, sisters, Ann LaBolita, Helen Stevenson, Marie Quatramoni. Robert is survived by daughters, Laura (Steve) Goff, of Geneva, Fl, Ann Marie Howell of Columbia, SC, and Robert (Kris) Welch, Jr., Indiana, PA, and 11 grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
