Robert Young (Bob), 81 of Orlando passed away Wed. January 3, 2007 after a sudden discovery of abdominal cancer. He was born in Illinois, one of eight brothers and sisters. He worked his families farm, then on the railroad, and Sears in Terre Haute, Indiana before he beginning his home building career. He moved his family to Orlando in 1955. He built, bought and remodeled homes, most notably the homes of Merrit Park. He later turned his carpentry skills to custom cabinetry and unique wood work for customers like Rutland's Clothing Stores, Hugh Robinson of Wig Villa and hundreds of individuals he provided large to small remodeling needs.
He loved to hunt, fish and the camping experience with his friends. He bought 15 acres of rough pine tree and palmetto dense land in 1975 on what was then called the Orange County Landfill Road off Curry Ford. The family petitioned and had the road named in his honor "Young Pine." He developed the land, built his families horse barn and the cabinet shop of his dreams. During the past year he enjoyed eagles soaring overhead, seeing turkey and deer walking in his pasture and living on his property with his family.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Barbara Young and daughter Christina Ann in 1999. He is survived by his daughters, Karla Caswell and Mary Martin of Orlando; grandsons Robert Berry of Lakeland and Shelby Martin of Orlando; great-grandchildren Faith and Robyn Berry; sisters Rachael Hunniford of Illinois, and Virginia Stine of Maryland and brother Wilbur Young of Florida.
Visitation will be held from 10AM-12PM on Monday January 8, 2007 at Newcomer Family Funeral Home, East Orlando. Funeral services will begin at 12PM in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
