Roberta M "Bertie" Kelchner

Roberta Marie Kelchner, 84 of Longwood , Florida passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024 at her home. She was cared for by her loving husband, Robert S. Kelchner.

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, she was a daughter of the late Elfreda H. Pahl and Robert C. Pahl. As a Child, she moved to Cumru Township in Berks County, Pennsylvania and resided there until 2013 when she moved with her husband to Longwood, Florida.

Roberta was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lake Mary, Florida. While living in Pa, she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mohnton, Pennsylvania, where she enjoyed volunteering as a Sunday School Teacher. She was also a Blue Bird Troop Leader while her children were younger. She joined St. John's Lutheran Church in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania and served on their Alter Guild and volunteered in the soup kitchen.

Roberta was a graduate of Governor Mifflin High School in Shillington, Pennsylvania. She worked various office jobs and was employed for 17 years as a secretary/ receptionist for the late Dr. M. Jack Gehman and Dr. Louis A. Kleiman. Roberta was also a homemaker and an enthusiastic dog lover, having raised and loved two Collie Sheps, a German Shepherd, an Australian Shepherd and her present dog Porter, a Papillon. Roberta also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, flowers and music. She made life-long friendships with a fun group of women in her Girl's Club that met together every month for nearly 40 years. She was also a member of the Junior Women's Club of Shillington, Pennsylvania, serving on various committees, and did charity work for the club.

Roberta is survived by her husband of nearly 66 years, Robert S. Kelchner, two daughters; Kathy L. (Philip B.) Markoe of Longwood, Florida and Loren E. Kelchner of Winter Springs, Florida and will be eternally missed by her loving grandchildren; Alisha L. Gilbert, Alexander R. Markoe and Sean A. Nigrelli, and great-grandchildren; Adalyn and Owen. Roberta is also survived by a sister, Julianne C. Arnold, and one brother, John M. Pahl .


A graveside service for Roberta will be held on Saturday, June 15 at 11am at Fairview Cemetery in Shillington, PA.
