Roberto Colon Sr., age 61, of Orlando, FL passed away June 12, 2019.
Thank you to the friends and family that are here today. I know that he would be happy to know you all are here in celebration of him, I hope everyone has their t shirt sleeve hats ready because that's the only way to look as good as him.
Roberto Colon passed peacefully in Gainesville, FL on June 12, 2019 at the strong age 61. He is survived by his siblings Luz, Carmen, Luz Maria, Ivonne and Justino Colon; his son, his nieces and nephews and his brethren. He has now reunited with his parents Bienvenida and Justino Colon and his siblings.
Born on February 22, 1958 in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, he went through school as a force to be reckoned with when it came to his family and later moved into the US Army as a scout in 1977. He climbed the ladder step by step before becoming a hero in the 1ST Infantry Division following the motto: "No mission too difficult. No sacrifice too great. Duty first!" He traveled the world during his term in the military and retired back home in St. Thomas before finally residing in Orlando, FL.
He entered many fields of work in his life from mechanics to mail service and even creating his own businesses with all his brilliance and he looked handsome every step of the way as if his mother would let him present himself any other way. She would be waiting at the gates with a golden chancleta if he slipped up.
He served as a mason with a heart of gold always helping everyone he could in every way. Whether it was by cracking a few jokes, giving a home, helping with transportation, showing love and strength or being everyone's search and rescue angel, he was always there and not more than a phone call and a flight away. He was a giver, a true provider and never left anyone out and nobody forgotten.
Whether it was hearing him talk to himself every Saturday morning "Do you love me? I love you, I love me too" on his way to get his cup of ice or dancing and singing with his best friend Achmed to Allah or putting on wigs and bras to hear our laughter and his chuckles or him waking up to breakfast on a Sunday morning saying "Wah! This for me? Tank you tank you" or his whispers to get you to ask, "What did you say?" and he would respond "Mind your business!" he was, is and always will be a light to his family and friends.
Today and forever we honor you our son, brother, cousin, uncle, brethren, soldier, hero, fighter:
We love you and we will never give up.
Visitation is Friday June 28, 2019 from 5pm to 7pm with memorial service starting at 7pm at the Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (East Orlando Chapel).
