Roger Newberry Blunt, age 90, died peacefully at home in Longwood, Florida on July 31, 2015. The cause was congestive heart failure.
He was born in London, England. His career included training in Pensacola as a pilot with the British Navy Air Command. He returned to England after the war and taught school before obtaining an Engineering degree. He moved to Canada with Westinghouse, then to New York with General Dynamics. He supervised the installation of a nuclear power reactor in the Antarctic. He was then transferred to Florida and retained as a consultant for many years. He opened Aquarius Sprinklers Irrigation in 1970. Projects included Sea World, Maitland Center and other commercial and residential sites. He retired in 2005.
Roger was very active in activities at Sanlando United Methodist Choir. He sang in the choir, participated in mission trips to Haiti, and was Co-chairman of the Pumpkin Patch for 5 years. He also sang barbershop music with the Orange Blossom Chorus for 35 years. He built scenery for the annual shows and especially enjoyed performing for Singing Valentines.
Roger is predeceased by his first wife, Sheila, and infant son, Peter. He is survived by his second wife Evelyn , of 29 years as well as his three children: Janet Blunt of Colorado; and Andrew Blunt and Graham Blunt of Orlando. He is also survived by three step children: Elizabeth O'Neill and Darren Humphrey of Orlando; and Abbey Meuter of Jacksonville. He leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Sanlando United Methodist Church, 1890 West State Road 434, Longwood, Florida 32750.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that financial contributions be directed to the Choir Fund and Youth Program at Sanlando United Methodist Church in Roger's memory.
