Roger Francis Olson

October 24, 1943 — January 13, 2022

Roger Francis Olson, 78, of Winter Springs, Florida & Madison, Wisconsin passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 13, 2022 after a brief illness.

Roger was born on October 24,1943 in Belleville, Wisconsin. He graduated from Belleville High School with varsity letters in basketball, football & baseball. It was here he met and married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Fahey eventually moving to Madison to raise his family. He worked for Madison Gas and Electric for 36 years making life-long friends with colleagues while prioritizing his time for each of his three children's numerous school and sports activities. Roger considered his family his greatest achievement. He was an extremely proud father.

Forever the athlete and sports fan, Roger played Belleville Home Talent Baseball then softball for the Stadium Bar & Jingles. He was an avid Wisconsin Badger and Green Bay Packer fan. During the UW Basketball season Roger and friends would attend every game home or away. His continuous enthusiasm for sports and involvement in school activities was extended to his grandchildren. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren's events and celebrating their accomplishments. Each of his grandchildren had a special bond with Grandpa and their own unique memories to cherish. Roger made lifelong friendships with neighbors as well as his extended family.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth Ann (Fahey) Olson, son Rick (Mary Sue) Olson of WI, son Robert (Tiffani) Olson of GA, daughter Rhonda (Jeff) Czurak of FL, 6 grandchildren: Reid (Sara) Olson, Nick Olson, Madison and Riley Olson, Justin and Mackenzie Czurak, 2 great-grandchildren: Roman and Salvatore Olson, sister Sonja Olson, and his beloved dog Zack.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Florence Olson, sister Janice (Olson) Rupp and brother Monte Olson.

Roger's sarcasm and quick wit plus his ability to light up a room made him an easy friend and popular neighbor. He was a welcoming and gracious soul who never missed a chance to offer friends and visitors a beer. He will forever be in our hearts & his love will be felt wherever friends and family gather. Roger will be greatly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life will be held in Madison, WI Spring/Summer 2022. Please email celebrateroger2022@gmail.com for updates regarding date and time.
