After a period of declining health, Roland J. Bouvier, Sr. peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 5, 2016. He was born on February 24, 1932 and resided in Central Falls, RI until his retirement in 1990. Roland was the son of the late Henry J. Bouvier and Amelia (Zalaska) Bouvier.
Roland served as a Tax Assessor for the City of Central Falls for 24 years spanning the terms of four different mayors. Prior to moving to Orlando, FL in 1990, Roland was active in the Franco American War Veterans Association and is a past national commander. In addition, he is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Roland was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1955 where proudly he served on the aircraft carrier USS Siboney.
An avid sports fan, Roland enjoyed watching as many games on television as possible and, when he was able, enjoyed attending games live. Through the church, Franco's, and camping, Roland and his wife were friends with many folks throughout New England and Orlando. Up until his health declined, he especially enjoyed playing golf, and most especially, competing against his son whenever they got to enjoy a round of golf together.
A wonderful husband and loving father, he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pauline L. (Boisvert) Bouvier; one daughter, Jeanne Jutras and her husband Michael; and one son, Roland Bouvier and his wife Shirley. He also leaves one grandson, Sean Jutras and his wife Cassandra, one great granddaughter, Noelle and his trusty companion, Scrappy, their dog. Roland was predeceased by his sister, Rita Stevens, and his brother, Robert Bouvier.
A viewing with military honors will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd., Orlando, FL on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Blessed Trinity Church, 4545 Anderson Road, Orlando, FL on Friday, March 11, 2016 beginning at 10:00 AM.
