On September 27, 1927, "Ronald" George Henry Rogers was born in Roxboro, NC to, now deceased parents, George and Mary Rogers. The second eldest of nine siblings, Moe, as most knew him, soon demonstrated a propensity to march to the beat of a different drum. He was a master debater; albeit by way of argument, and belabor a topic until his opponent would beg to surrender. He was the apple of his mother's eye and a fierce defender of the family. Many found him charming, loquacious and generous; if he was in your corner, a staunch ally. He had a knack for pinpointing the absurdity of actions and others and was not shy about sharing this opinion. Never loud, he, nevertheless, coined phrases that resounding and family would laugh about and, eventually, unwittingly adopt. Everyone would agree, Moe was slow about everything! Not just late, from head and hand movements, to making decisions and, definitely, to getting out the door, Moe was the Webster's poster child for slow.
All of these quirky personality traits carried Moe throughout his childhood transition to New York where he attended elementary through high school, his stint in the US Army introduction to the Lord and membership in the Apostolic Gospel Church of Christ and through life's milestones including last NYC employ as a bus driver for the MTA. Along the NY journey, with charisma and intent Moe pursued and married Constance Bryant in 1952. To this union were born six children, Ronald (deceased), Karryn, Bettina, Janyce, Stephen and Darrell who joined siblings Louis, Rose and Robyn in the legacy of his story.
In 1974, after the death of his brother, Thomas in California, Moe went to his sister-in-law to help in arranging their business affairs and fell in love with the idea of permanently gracing LA with his presence. He took up residence, joined their church and become a bus driver for LA County. Moe remained in California until illness forced him to relocate loser to family, in North Carolina and in Orlando, Florida where he remained until his demise in October 2016.
Moe lived and loved in complex ways, truly exemplifying the sentiments of Frank Sinatra's "I did it my way". Regardless of the time, place of position in which his path wound, Moe professed love for God and, even in his last days on earth, he made his way to chapel every week.
"Ronald" is survived by wife, Constance Rogers, eight children, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren; siblings, Nancy, Alice, Douglas Curtis and Yvonne and a host of nieces, nephews and other wonderful family and friends.
Moe was an enigma; charmer, disarmed, taciturn, talkative, distant and connected but never forgotten.
