Rosario Diaz Mendez
June 8, 1919 — August 29, 2016
Rosario Diaz Mendez, 97, departed this life peacefully on Monday, August 29, 2016 in Orlando, Florida. Rosario was born on June 8, 1919 in Luquillo, Puerto Rico and he was the beloved son of the late Isabelo Arroyo and Maria De La Cruz Mendez. He was one of twelve children.
He will be remembered as an honorable and courageous Army veteran who retired as a Sergeant First Class touring in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Mr. Diaz Mendez was proud to be part of the 65th Infantry Regiment, "The Borinqueneers".
Rosario was predeceased by his wife, Esperanza Maldonado in 1996. He leaves wonderful memories to be cherished by his daughter, N. Raquel Diaz; granddaughter, Leila Murphy; three great grandchildren, Leilany, Alejandro and Ailani; sister, Catalina Diaz VDA d Soto; and numerous extended family members and friends.
His kind and loving soul will remain in our hearts forever.
Family will greet friends from 9AM to 12PM on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home in Orlando followed by a Celebration of Rosario's Life at 12PM. He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a later date.
