Roman, Ruben D.- The youngest of fourteen, Ruben D. Román was born in Hatillo, Puerto Rico to the late Juan and Juanita Román on June 6th, 1938.
He relocated with his family to Brooklyn , New York in 1948. At 18 he joined the United States Navy, where he served his country aboard the USS Harold R. Dickenson and lived his dream of seeing the world.
Having been honorably discharged in March 1960, he returned to Brooklyn where he met the love of his life Betzaida Sanchez; they married on October 2nd, 1965. While in New York they had their first two sons, Ruben and Carlos.
In search of a better life for his family, in 1973 he relocated to his birth land, Puerto Rico, where they soon had their third son, Javier. Although he was never fond of "puertorican" politics and traffic, he loved the island and its rich natural habitat.
In the summer of 1985 he established himself in Orlando , FL., where he joined other family members. There he continued to work and enjoy his many hobbies and family, when he then began a long courageous fight against his illness. It was during this time that he came to know the Lord, who became his main source of strength, courage and wisdom, until the end, when he went to be with the Lord.
Ruben was a man of strong character, and also a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather. He always had a great sense of humor. Through good and bad times, he remained committed to his wife and family. He was always proud of his family heritage and looked up to his elder siblings. Artistic, talented and creative are some attributes that characterize him. Whether it was a floral or business arrangement, designing some new device or landscape, or even moving massively large structures, he left you with the thought, "How in the world…?"
As he ascends to enter into the eternal joy of the Lord, he leaves behind to celebrate his life his beloved wife Betzaida Roman; three sons, Ruben, Carlos, and Javier Roman; his loving mother-in-law, Hipolita Molina; two daughters-in-law, Christy Roman and Damary Roman; and four grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, Jace and Jovanni Roman. He also leaves four sisters, Blanca Santiago, Lydia Sanchez, Gloria Martinez, and Carmen Vivaldi; and six brothers, Wilfredo, Isauro, Luis, Benjamin, Frank and Antonio Roman, along with a multitude of relatives and friends.
