Sheila Kay Walter (Elder), 61, of Orlando, Florida passed away on January 3, 2025.
She was born on September 8, 1963, to Patricia and Harry D. Elder in Cairo, West Virginia.
Sheila graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia, then began her career as a Secretary at Appalachian Power Company where she met the love of her life, Donald Walter. They were married on November 20, 1982, and enjoyed adventures in Florida, Hawaii, and the Bahamas before their family grew with the birth of their daughter, Tabitha Walter, and later their son, Brandon Walter.
Sheila lived life to the fullest and ensured that everyone knew the goodness of Jesus Christ. After being a stay-at-home mom for many years, she worked as a school secretary, taught piano lessons and faith classes, became an ordained minister, counseled those who suffered from drug addiction, and ministered to prisoners and trafficked women.
Her life verse was a call to persevere:
But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Jude 1:20-21
Her happiest moments were spent lounging on a beach or enjoying time with her family. Sheila was a supermom to Tabitha and Brandon and loved their spouses Tom Belli and Chasidy Walter as her own children. She was a proud Mawmaw and Nana to Jude, Ava, and Madelyn.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Donald Elder, and her granddaughter Alexandria.
She is survived by her husband, two children, three grandchildren, four brothers and sisters, and numerous family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Adult & Teen Challenge Appalachian Region or Prison Fellowship.
