Shirley San Soucie

March 29, 1933 — April 5, 2023

Shirley San Soucie, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2023, at the age of 90. Born on March 29, 1933, in Maplewood, NJ, USA, Shirley was known for her friendly, compassionate, and helpful personality.

As a child, Shirley spent her summers on Martha's Vineyard in a gingerbread cottage from the 1800's. This tradition continued for many generations, bringing her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren for many years.
After graduating from highschool, Shirley went to LaSell University where she majored in Nutrition and worked as a Dietitian at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Ma.
Boston is also where she met her husband, Emil San Soucie. After marriage, they moved to Philadelphia, PA to start a family.

Shirley was a talented and dedicated homemaker, known for her amazing skills in baking, gardening, and sewing. She was active in the community, president and longtime member of the Junior Women's Club of Philadelphia and a member of PEO(Philanthropic Women's Organization) for more than 50 years.
Her delicious baked goods brought joy to the hearts of many, including working at the Black Dog Bakery on Martha's Vineyard and selling her goods at the local flea market. This helped her form lasting connections with friends and neighbors.

Later in life, Shirley lived on Martha's Vineyard year round being a private care taker. Her friendly nature and genuine compassion touched the lives of countless individuals. She was always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need and brighten the day of anyone around her. Her presence will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community she called home.

Shirley's love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life. She is survived by her loving children, Stephen San Soucie (Francine) Chestnut Hill, PA and Debra Folsom (James) Longwood, FL; grandchildren Brandon Bortz (Ashley), Stacy Hart (Justin), Ashley Bortz, and Benjamin San Soucie; great grandchildren Baylee Hart and Carissa Hart; two sisters Marilyn Wittlinger and Beverly Atseff (Larry). She was preceded in death by her son Michael San Soucie.

As we remember Shirley San Soucie, let us celebrate the life she lived and the love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her. Though she may be gone, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. The Celebration of Life will be held on May 20th on Martha's Vineyard. Details will follow.
